design data analysis research 3d modelingThe Office of Applied Research and Innovation is dedicated to supporting local industry and community partners throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. It serves as the College’s main point of contact for industry, community groups and government interested in applied research collaborations focused on solving real-world problems that impede the development and growth of our industries and communities.
Our students come from programs found within the schools of Business/IT, Applied Arts and Tourism, and Engineering Technology. Based on the needs of the company project, we can highlight and identify students from multiple disciplines in order to execute on the project.
Students can complete projects individually or in small groups based on your needs.
The timeline is flexible as students can be hired until the last week of January, but will need to complete 420 hours of work.
Learners
Deliverables that could be completed include but are not limited to:
- 3D Design / Model
- Business process analysis with recommendations for improvements
- Facility layout optimization and drawings
- Software evaluation / technology adoption assessment

FUNDING
As part of our program, these projects are expected to be paid opportunities. The type of compensation may vary per opportunity (depending on scope/duration of project).
There are a number of funding agencies which provide innovation and funding services customized to business and industry specific needs. The goal of this funding is to help eligible businesses and industries in Newfoundland and Labrador accelerate their growth through innovation and technology.
College of North Atlantic is part of several funding networks which provide innovation support to industry and entrepreneurs in Newfoundland and Labrador. The goal of this funding is to help eligible businesses in Newfoundland and Labrador accelerate growth through innovation and technology, particularly as they relate to technology adoption for product and process optimization, product designing and testing, and 3D printing.
Our office maintains up to date information from a host of funding agencies and facilitates access to funding for eligible applicants.
WE HAVE THE TOOLS AND PERSONNEL TO ASSIST WITH:
- Identifying industry driven applied research opportunities and connecting industry partners with appropriate CNA expertise and resources.
- Identifying funding opportunities from provincial, federal, and international sources.
- Administering grants to lessen the administrative responsibility of partners.
- Developing quality proposals, hiring project personnel, procuring project equipment and materials, and managing project accounts right through to the project close-out phase and
- Supporting initiatives to foster careers in STEM through outreach programs, innovation challenges and showcases.
Additional company criteria
Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:
Provide a dedicated contact who is available to answer periodic emails or phone calls over the duration of the project to address students' questions.
Be available for an introductory meeting to ensure project scope, define opportunities for potential funding, project development etc.
Companies must be open to having a discussion about payment for students. We can support with various available funding opportunities.
