In this project, students will focus on themes in rural geography, including land use issues, small settlements and society, agriculture, tourism and other industries, rural administration, service provision, and the effect of socio-economic processes such as urbanization and globalization. Through this lens, the students will tackle a related challenge that your organization is facing. Upon completion of the project, you will receive a detailed report and presentation.

Project Examples

Requirements

Students in groups of 3-5 will work with your company to identify your needs and provide actionable recommendations, based on their in-depth research and analysis.

Project activities might include but are not limited to:

  • Defining and describing the meaning of the word “rural” and how its meaning has varied through time and around the world.
  • Describing examples of rural regions in Canada, Japan and around the world using social, economic and environmental criteria.
  • Describing rural restructuring and the processes involved in Canada and around the world.
  • Describing and assess the importance of contemporary social, economic and environmental issues in rural areas in Canada and around the world and how they are managed in the context of sustainable development (sustainability).
  • Describing living and working in the changing rural landscape of the 21st century.
  • Helping with the design of farm tours for municipalities.

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:
